Our Response to Nasibi Propaganda

We have been informed by one of the brothers that a particular Nasibi website has posted a clip of Sheikh Mohammad Al-Mail, from a lecture he has given, entitled, "Hatred For Imam Ali is a Condition of Being Sunni."

What was proven within this lecture is that having enmity towards Imam Ali (peace be upon him), or deviating from him (peace be upon him) - even if it is slightly - is a condition of truly becoming a "Sunni".

Even if one was to say that this is not true, merely because a "Sunni" does not specifically admit it, their actions and clear-cut diversion from the Commander of the Faithful proves their enmity, even in the slightest degree. If an individual loved a person and believed in his knowledge and status, would they oppose him - as "Sunnis" today oppose the jurisprudential opinions of Imam Ali, for example?

Sheikh Mohammad Al-Mail mentioned in his lecture the statement of ibn Khallikan, from his book, Wafayat Al-Ayan, where he narrated the words of Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdadi, regarding the Nasibi, Ali ibn Al-Jahm. Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdadi stated about him, "...and he was a religious and virtuous man". Then ibn Khallikan goes on to say, "...and he (i.e. Ali ibn Al-Jahm) was upon the path opposing Ali ibn Abi Talib, and he displayed being upon the Sunnah (Prophetic tradition), through his graceful poetry."

They do not hesitate to view Ali ibn Al-Jahm a "religious" and "virtuous" man, even though they are aware that he deviated from Imam Ali (peace be upon him). For them, ibn Al-Jahm was brave, for he displayed openly what no other "Sunni" was able to to display openly. He proudly displayed his enmity towards Imam Ali (peace be upon him), while the others didn't - in other words, they practised Taqiyya (dissimulation)! Notice how ibn Khallikan does not hide the fact that ibn Al-Jahm deviated from Ali (peace be upon him); rather he openly and proudly states that ibn Al-Jahm acted upon the Sunnah! As for them, "acting upon the Sunnah" is showing enmity towards Imam Ali (peace be upon him).

In addition, Al-Masoudi, in his Tarikh Al-Masoudi, states: "It has been reported that ibn Al-Jahm deviated, cursed, hated and showed enmity towards Ali (peace be upon him), and this also caused him to curse his own father." He (i.e. ibn Al-Jahm) was asked as to why he cursed his father, to which he replied, "Because he gave me the name Ali."

Imagine that his hatred for Imam Ali (peace be upon him), the Master of Monotheism, was so much that he even cursed his own father for naming him Ali!

ibn Al-Jahm is not the only Nasibi they narrate from, and deem to be trustworthy. In fact, there are countless others! Research the likes of Amran ibn Hatan - the one who cursed and showed enmity towards Imam Ali (peace be upon him) in his poems. Horayaz ibn Uthman is another - the one who used to curse Imam Ali (peace be upon him) every morning; and of course, Muawiya ibn Abi Sufyan - the one who cursed Ali (peace be upon him) from the pulpits and made it a Sunnah to do so. And in a report found within one of their own books, namely Sharh Nahjul-Balagha, Al-Zuhri states, "...and these (Nasibi individuals) are all proofs (upon us) that strengthen the reports (we have received)."

May Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He) protect us from deviating from Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), even in the very slightest. As Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him and his family) said, "Ali is with the truth, and the truth is with Ali."
